A team at the Psychiatric Hospital of the University of Zurich has developed a video call tool for psychiatric and psychotherapeutic use that enables therapists to reach out to hard-to-reach patients including those with substance use disorders. PD Dr. med. Oliver Gero Bosch talks in this video message about medical confidentiality and the need for secure communication with patients that have to stay at home during the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the Covid-19 Crisis, also patients suffering from psychiatric disorders must stay home to stay safe. However, they still need their treatments. Now, even more, as the burden from anxiety, depression, and substance use disorders strongly increases. Moreover, many of these patients are also impaired by cognitive symptoms, which reduce their ability to use commonly available videocall tools. Further developments of the tool will include specific features that focus on the treatment of psychiatric disorders, including substance use disorders.
